Daisy in Manhattan: Queen Margrethe's Visit to the US, Day Three

Queen Margrethe is in New York today for a visit to the United Nations; participation in the "Danish" at the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA); and the evening gala at the American Museum of Natural History on the Upper West Side. Mary's such a bogan, she would probably only deign to be seen on the snooty Upper East Side.

At the UN, Daisy and Henrik were greeted by Mr. & Mrs. Ban-Ki Moon who gave them a tour of the grounds and buildings including the remodel of the Council Chamber originally designed by Finn Juhl, and they later hosted the royal couple for lunch.

After their visit to the UN, the royal couple crossed Manhattan to hand out prizes to the winners of the Reinventing Danish Classics competition at MoMA. The winners, Kasper Salto and Thomas Sigsgaard, posed for photos out in the courtyard with their royal hosts. Respected museum director Glenn Lowry greeted Daisy and Henrik outside the entry to the museum where it is easy to see that these Danish royal actually attracted a crowd of interest, not just commuters held up by posing princesses.

In the evening, Daisy and Henrik were the guests of honour at the the Danish American Society's annual dinner gala where the queen was awarded "Person of the Year", a prize Derf won in 2003 - do note that this was a year before the dreaded wedding when he still had a bit of life and meaningfulness to him. Daisy sent strong signals by appearing in the same dress she wore to darling Princess Marie's wedding! The young flower girl is Sarafina Belafonte, the granddaughter of Harry Belafonte and the daughter of Malene Belefonte, a too-skinny Danish celebrity who has appeared on the Danish version of Dancing with the Stars and has a gossip column with Her og Nu celebrity magazine. Here is BT's photo gallery from the event and Billed Bladet's photo gallery.

It's still not too late to join Prince Henrik on his birthday this Saturday in Solvang, California! According to the local Lompoc Record, there will be a free birthday party in the park open to everyone and a private dinner later Saturday evening at Rusack Vinyards.
